About Professional Practice

As an aspiring police officer, I maintain the belief that being extra-individualistic and having views that contain an understanding of socio-cultural norms, discourses, ethics and values is a significant contributor in creating interactions that give opportunity for fair societies that all individuals have potential to subside in. My role as an aspiring police officer is to maintain constant views of being law-abiding in which creates opportunities for all to live in peaceful harmony of one another. With my current studies preparing me to become a police officer, I am looking forward to seeing development of laws that help communities crack down on specific wrong doings and create interactions that help aid one another.

About Interprofessionalism

Interprofessionalism is highly relevant in the criminal justice sector. The idea of compiling different perspectives from individuals composed of various professionals and occupations provide a wider view of topics that aspiring police officers such as myself strive to utilize so ethical decision making is made. Therefore, integrating this theory towards the criminal justice system, it is prominent to highlight that individuals from the police, social sciences or psychological sector may contribute in certain topics that are being challenged due to the difficulty of pin pointing the exact causes with only one profession.

About Ethical Practice

Ethical practice has a significant relevance in the aspiration of becoming integrated in the criminal justice system. To aspire to become a police officer, my understanding of ethical practice revolves around the New South Wales police forces code of conduct, standards of professional conduct and statement of values, in which must be aligned to fully grasp the role of defending those you have sworn to protect. Thus, with my own experiences, ethical practice is vital to keeping ethical decision making, which in turn creates morally motivated outcomes and creates community integration and solidarity.

(Graduate) Skill Set & Knowledge

1. Generic Skills: I have developed various transferrable skills that have aided me in helping my peers in day to day duties in the workplace. These include, outstanding time managements skills which are balanced between my current studies and workplace hours, exceptional communication skills from working in team-based environments and problem-solving skills that arise from working in technological difficult environments that rely on intellectual understanding. Furthermore, I have impressive interpersonal skills that enforce me to adapt to new environments which include multicultural teams and diverse environments. The level of understanding comes from a high self-management which further helps with other skills such as high levels of listening skills, adaptability and written competency.

2. Specialized skills: As an aspiring police officer, my studies have encouraged me to partake in skill-based activities that have further enhanced my specialized skills. These skills include, writing court reports and analyzing environmental factors that may contribute in higher rates of crime. By being involved in my university studies, these assessments encouraged me to implicate myself in the investigative processes and conformity these tasks provided. Thus, I further enhanced my specialized skills that were shown to be prime examples as my marks were exceptional for the level of in-depth analysis I showed for each process.

Community Funding Application Development

Regarding the community funding application, my capacity and skills to conduct community needs is strong especially in regard to our topic of bettering the lives of refugees as the rates of self-harm and suicide were high in comparison to Australian born citizens. Also, my ability for project identification is important as our group focused on concerns affecting refugees in which working in a group environment helps to highlight current concerns and outline solutions to combat the problem that affect refugees daily. Furthermore, as for the proposal development, providing insight and points of views creates ways in eliminating negative choice making and creating positive outcomes through effective communication skills such as the introduction of our three programs of sustainable future, healthy living and language skills.  Lastly, investigating possible funding bodies is vital as creating partnerships help aid communities faster and integrate individuals in certain situations more effectively, including, the funding from multinational organisations and the government.

Applied Debating: Developing Position Papers

In reference to developing position papers, the process starts with my conceptual and substantive understanding of applied debate. Gathering information and arguing a point of view where there will be limitations and counter arguments creates the applied debate in which I had to apply my information more persuasively to highlight my point across more effectively than other arguments. This is further evident in regard to developing my position paper where I had to gather the information and outline the main points, in which is further  emphasised in written form to effectively draw in the readers attention with my side of the debate.
